2000 Chevy 56-Terminal PCM Repair Manual – Chevy 1.4 and 1.6L TBI Free PDF

The 56-terminal PCM computer installed in the models Chevy Pop and Monza With 1.4L and 1.6L engines, TBI is responsible for controlling the electronic injection system and ignition.
This module was widely used by General Motors in compact vehicles produced between 1997 and 2003, and is one of the easiest to diagnose and repair.

Models and years compatible with this computer
This electronic module was designed for the following models with TBI (throttle body injection) systems:
- Chevrolet Chevy Pop 1.4L and 1.6L – Models from 1997 to 2003
- Chevrolet Monza 1.4L and 1.6L – Models from 1997 to 2003
These engines operate with basic, but precise, electronic systems that require maintenance and proper diagnosis when faults arise related to ignition, idling, or injection.
Components controlled by the PCM Chevy 2000
The 56-pin PCM computer is responsible for regulating multiple sensors and actuators, including:
- TBI Injector
- Ignition coil
- TPS sensor (throttle position sensor)
- IAT (air temperature) sensor
- MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure)
- CTS sensor (coolant temperature)
- O2 (oxygen) sensor
- IAC valve (idle speed)
- Fuel pump relay
PCM Main Terminal Distribution Chevy 2000
The computer has two connectors: one with 24 pins and another with 32 pins. Some of the most relevant pins include:
| Bus Terminal | Function | Expected voltage |
|---|---|---|
| Pin A1 | Constant power supply (Battery) | 12 V |
| Pin B3 | Power supply with switch ON | 12 V |
| Pin C5 | TBI injector outlet | Pulse between 5 and 12 V |
| Pin D2 | Electronic Earth | 0 V |
Recommended tests with a multimeter

1. Power and ground verification
- Pin A1: It must have a direct 12V supply at all times.
- Pin B3: It should only display 12V with the switch ON.
- Pin D2: Solid ground, should show 0V.
2. Sensor readings
- GST: 0.4V with the throttle closed, up to 4.5V at full throttle.
- MAP: 1.2 – 1.8V at idle, increases when accelerating.
- CTS: 3V cold, 0.5V hot.
- Oxygen sensor: Oscillation between 100 and 900 mV.
3. Activation of actuators
With a test light or scanner, you can check if the ECU is activating:
- Injector: press during startup
- Coil: emits a spark when the engine turns.
- IAC valve: performs movement during ignition
Diagnosing common faults
Among the most frequently reported problems when using this PCM are:
- Intermittent or no spark ignition (coil or transistor failure)
- Injector without pulse (ground problem or short circuit)
- Idle failure due to IAC valve or TPS sensor
- Excessive power consumption due to erroneous temperature sensor reading
Repair recommendations
- Before replacing the ECU, check power supply, ground, and relays.
- Use an oscilloscope to view the CKP signal pattern.
- Use the OBD-I scanner to read codes and clear memories.
